Artist’s Statement

Possibilities. I love that word; it is full of evolutionary expansion. It is a forward thinking word, rooted in the present but alluding to the future.
Glass is the medium of choice for my personal expression. Within the broad scope of ‘glass’ I have found a home in Kiln-formed Glass. Whether it is referred to as Fused Glass, Warm Glass or Kiln-formed Glass, the possibilities for expression seem to be limitless in this new approach to forming glass. The fact that Kiln-formed glass, as we know it, is so new and has been explored for less than a century is very exciting. To think that discoveries in techniques can be made that will open the doors of expression for many is exhilarating.
Teaching is a big part of my expression in glass. I love sharing what I have learned with others. It is magical to see the spark of excitement that is generated when new expressive possibilities are revealed.
Possibilities are presented in every living moment. I have become fascinated with the humanity of the moment. The fact that we all could experience the same event at the same moment and yet have quite different views of that moment is most compelling to me. We create ourselves moment by moment. This personal creative evolution is why I am intrigued by masks and masking, the covering of one’s humanity with the idea of another. The momentary escape from our inner being that allows the unencumbered pursuit of all possibilities.
