The "Spiritvision" Series
The Spiritvision Series of wall plaques was created from
inspiration received from two phenomenal artists. Kathleen Sheard creates
realistic wildlife portraits using fused glass powders and frits, and the pastel
pen and ink work of the late Susan Seddon Boulet.
The central image of the Spiritvison Series is a female
spirit surrounded and enveloped by an aura of colors. The visions that are
depicted in the aura develop after the first firing of the base colors. These
images are revealed in the glass in much the same way that images are revealed
in the clouds in the sky. I particularly like the idea that each Spirit has a
unique vision; a vision that has been created by the glass and like all visions,
they are gestural rather than realistic.
The use of primarily transparent glass powders allows for
a water color type of background wash. Many layers of colors are used and mixed
to create a complex color pallet. Additionally, a blend of vitreous paint is
applied by pen and brush to create areas of detail.
